Mozilla has released Firefox 89. It is the first version of the browser with a new design. That onion, called Proton, has much sleeker toolbars and menus with more spacing. Also, the browser extends the cookie blocker Total Cookie Protection to private mode.

Mozilla is rolling out the new browser for desktop and mobile users. The browser has an updated design that it has been working on since the beginning of this year. In particular, the new address bar and toolbar stand out. The URL bar contains fewer icons and information, and the tabs now ‘float’ at the top of the browser.

The menu structure has also been addressed. Mozilla has merged several menu options to make the settings more manageable. The browser also has new icons everywhere, a different typography, and there is more spacing throughout the browser.

Also in terms of functionality, Firefox 89 has a few changes. For example, autoplay videos are turned off by default, and notifications from websites take up less space. Mozilla also runs Total Cookie Protection in private mode. It’s been around since Firefox 86, but in incognito users had to manually enable it. With Total Cookie Protection, tracking cookies that track users across different websites are placed in a silo that prevents them from seeing which websites a user visits.
