Facebook disables News tab in Germany, France and UK

Facebook will remove the News tab for users in Germany, France and the United Kingdom. The function has never been available in the Benelux.

Facebook parent company Meta says that the change will take place in December. Although the company doesn’t say so explicitly, it appears that the tab was underutilized. About 3 percent of Facebook use worldwide is news, the company says. According to Meta, people prefer more short videos on the platform than news items. News will remain available as posts in the News Feed. Facebook will respect deals with media companies, but will no longer make new deals. The News tab will remain in the US and Australia.
