Smartphone leaker Evan Blass has shared information about the Qualcomm SM8450. That is the successor to the Snapdragon 888-soc, which has model number SM8350. The new soc would be made at 4nm with cores based on the Arm Cortex v9 architecture.

In a list shows Blass on Twitter the innovations of the new soc. However, it mainly contains Qualcomm’s marketing names and no concrete specifications. For example, the Snapdragon 888 successor would be equipped with an X65 5G modem, an Adreno 730 GPU and a Kryo 780 CPU.

The CPU is said to be based on Arm’s Cortex v9 architecture. The fastest core of this new architecture is the Cortex-X2 and it is obvious that Qualcomm equips its fastest soc with it. The chip would be made on a 4nm process, but it is not known which chip manufacturer.

Qualcomm is currently having the Snapdragon 888 made on Samsung’s 5nm process. This collaboration may continue, because Samsung also has a 4nm process. The same applies to TSMC, a party with which Qualcomm also regularly collaborates.

The X65 5G modem could handle 1GHz bandwidth in the mmWave spectrum and 400MHz in sub-6GHz networks. With the X60 modem in the Snapdragon 888, that is 800MHz and 200MHz respectively.

Qualcomm has not yet announced anything about the Snapdragon 888 successor. According to rumors, a Plus variant of that soc will first appear. The SM8450 may be announced at the end of this year and could then appear in Android smartphones in early 2022.
