Game publisher Electronic Arts is laying off six percent of its staff in a reorganization. That would amount to approximately 780 employees. The jobs are being cut as EA plans to review its investment strategy and reduce its office space.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson writes in a blog post that the company wants to ‘add more focus’ to its portfolio. The game publisher therefore says it is distancing itself from projects that do not contribute to its strategy. The company is also reducing its real estate and restructuring some teams. “These decisions are expected to impact approximately six percent of our workforce,” Wilson wrote. In documents to the US SEC EA also specifically talks about a staff reduction of approximately six percent.

Electronic Arts had about 13,000 employees last year. This reorganization would result in the elimination of 780 jobs, also reports The Wall Street Journal. The company has begun notifying affected employees and expects this to “continue until the beginning of the next fiscal year.” The current financial year ends on Friday, March 31. Wilson does not report which teams or projects are subject to the reorganization. The company does say that employees will be given the option to transfer to other projects where possible.

Several tech companies have made layoffs in recent months due to a declining economy. Microsoft laid off 10,000 people at the beginning of this year, including several employees at Halo developer 343 Industries. Tech giants such as Amazon, Google and Meta have also made layoffs in recent months.
