Dremel Introduces Own 3D Printer – Update

Dremel, an American manufacturer of power tools, has announced a 3D printer. The 3D Idea Builder features a touchscreen for stand-alone operation and can print objects with a resolution of 100 micrometers.

The 3d printer can create objects of up to 230x160x140mm. This means that the 3D Idea Builder has to compete with MakerBot’s Mini, among others. Dremel has equipped the printer with a 3.5″ IPS touchscreen, which means that the Idea Builder can also be used without a connected computer.

Object designs can be extracted from an SD card in the integrated SD card reader. There is also 4GB of internal storage available. According to Dremel, the printer can only handle its own pla-filaments. The filaments are said to be environmentally friendly because the plastic is biodegradable and recyclable.

Dremel is partnering with Autodesk for its 3D printer ambitions. For example, the Autodesk 123D software is included. Dremel has put the 3D Idea Builder on the American market for 999 dollars, or 775 euros. The printer will be available from November.
