Discord takes over social network for compliments Gas

Discord has taken over Gas. That is a social network that allows users, especially young people, to create polls that are mainly intended to give compliments to each other. For now, the app will remain standalone.

Discord writes in a blog post about the acquisition, although it does not give further details about the amount paid and which employees and leaders will stay with the app. Well founder Nikita Bier reported last week that he left Gas, but it is not clear whether his departure is related to the takeover. Discord says that Gas will continue to be used as a standalone app “for now”. The team behind the app will “help Discord in our efforts to tap into a new core audience,” the company writes. It is not clear whether and in what way Gas may be processed in the chat app in the future.

Gas is a social network that is especially popular among young people. The app allows users to create polls, but only polls that are positive. Users can then anonymously answer those polls with compliments. In October Bier reported that the service had reached one million daily active users.
