Developer threatens to cancel Project Cars for Wii U due to low fps

A developer from Slightly Mad Studios has let go that the Wii U version of the racing game Project Cars may not be coming. The achieved frame rate on the Wii U would be too low in practice.

Developer Ian Bell reports on the Project Cars forum that they are currently achieving a framerate of 23fps on an early Wii U version of the game at 720p resolution. In the eyes of the game developer, that is insufficient, or a choice must be made to make the game graphically lighter.

Bell also states in his forum posting that he hopes Nintendo will announce new hardware at the upcoming E3 fair in June. This makes it unlikely that Project Cars will be released on the Wii U, although the game developer has not yet officially confirmed this.

Nintendo will release a new console next year. The Japanese manufacturer is developing the system, based on a ‘new concept’ for gaming, under the code name NX, but details about NX are not yet known.
