Developer publishes guide to put Windows 10 on Lumia 950 XL

A developer has posted a guide online to run Windows 10 Pro, the full version of the OS, on a Lumia 950 XL. That phone can only run Windows 10 Mobile by default. Developers have been trying to get Windows 10 on the phone for some time.

The installation is not suitable for phones that users still have in their pocket every day, according to the manual on GitHub. Many elements do not work, including telephony. Other people followed the guide and got Windows 10 Pro up and running on the Lumia 950 XL. It is the latest version of Windows 10: 1803.

The port is only possible on the Lumia 950 phones, as they are the only high-end models from Nokia or Microsoft with a 64-bit processor. Predecessors such as the Lumia 930 and 920 have 32-bit socs on board.

Ben Imbusio shows in a video how Windows 10 works on a Lumia 950 XL. Flashing requires the installation of various tools. Also, users need to repartition their Lumia including bcd partition to access the phone in Android Fastboot mode. The developer says that booting Linux should also be possible, as long as seven of the eight processor cores are turned off.
