A number of fans have created a Warcraft mod that runs on the StarCraft II engine. The mod named Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth is a remake of Warcraft III with added new gameplay functionality. They want to raise money through an Indiegogo campaign.

Despite the additions, the makers say the balance from the original, Warcraft III, has been preserved. The mod uses resources from other Blizzard games such as World of Warcraft for the characters.

In addition to better graphical qualities due to the engine, the game includes new models of heroes, buildings, vehicles, the makers write on the Battle.net forum. Other mod makers can create their own mods and maps in Warcraft style. The mod is playable with the StarCraft II Starter Edition.

In order to put more time into the project, which has been in the works for several years, the modders are releasing their project and want to raise money through Indiegogo. The stated goal is $80,000. With it, the group aims to build the Orc and Human races, create a campaign called Exodus of the Horde, and develop a Local Player Achievement system.

If the amount exceeds the initial target amount, the intention is to develop more campaigns, maps and races. The mod was Mod of the Year 2015 on Moddb. According to the Indiegogo page, Blizzard has given its “blessing” to the project to set up a crowdfunding campaign.

Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth is fully playable, but the makers do warn that it is still an alpha version.
