Corning introduces Gorilla Glass Victus, the seventh generation of the protective glass used in many smartphones. According to the manufacturer, the new glass is more resistant to drops and also more scratch resistant.

In Corning’s own tests, smartphones with the new glass survive a fall of 2 meters on a hard surface. With Gorilla Glass 6, the manufacturer mentioned a fall height of 1.6 meters. The new glass is also ‘up to two times more scratch resistant’ than the previous generation, according to the maker. It is not clear exactly what that is based on; Corning uses different methods in the Gorilla Glass 6 documentation than in the Gorilla Glass Victus documentation.

Gorilla Glass Victus is the seventh generation of the glass in the series; the Gorilla Glass 6 variant has existed since 2018. Manufacturers can purchase the glass in thicknesses from 0.4 to 1.2 mm, or other thicknesses on special request. According to rumors, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the first smartphone to get the new protective glass.
