Cooler Master is working on a modular version of a macropad, as the devices with Elgato’s Stream Deck as the best-known example are officially called. The Cooler Master MasterHub combines the usual LCD keys with sliders and rotary knobs, among other things.

The MasterHub consists of a basic module of 10x15cm (4×6 inches), the size of a standard photo frame. You can place the hub horizontally or vertically in a black anodized aluminum stand. On the base, which is equipped with RGB lighting, you can place various modules in a layout of your choice, using pogo pins to connect each module to the base. The base has a USB-C port on two sides, so you can choose where to connect the cable.

Various modules will be available for the MasterHub. The largest module is 4×3 inches and contains fifteen keys with small LCD screens, the appearance and function of which you can adjust yourself. There will also be a 4×1″ module with two scroll wheels, a 4×2″ module with five sliders including lighting that lights up to the point where the slider is currently located and a 2×2″ module with three rotary knobs and similar lighting. Up to Finally, there will be a 2×2″ module consisting of a large turning wheel with IPS screen.

You can customize the functions of all buttons, knobs and wheels via Cooler Master’s MasterCTRL software. The modules understand where they are located in relation to each other and in what orientation they are placed, which should make adjustments to the software intuitive.

According to the manufacturer, the MasterHub should mainly appeal to PC users in the creative sector, who want to use the buttons and controls, for example, to control audio channels, light intensities and colors. In addition to the functionality that Cooler Master offers, an API will become available that makes it possible to develop custom plug-ins.

Update, 12/14: An earlier version of this post stated that the MasterHub will be officially introduced at CES. Cooler Master informs us that although the device is shown there, it is still a prototype for which feedback is being collected. Only later in 2024 will it become more clear in what form and at what price the MasterHub will actually come onto the market.
