AirPlay 2 is not included in the latest beta of iOS 11.3 and tvOS 11.3. The feature was present in previous betas of the operating systems. It is unknown if the protocol will come out this spring or if Apple is delaying it.

The manufacturer has not provided an explanation as to why AirPlay 2 is no longer in the betas. 9to5Mac noted that protocol support is no longer present in iOS 11.3 and tvOS 11.3 firmware. The site speculates that Apple is delaying the release of AirPlay 2 until the next version of both operating systems. They come out this fall.

Apple announced Airplay 2 at its WWDC developer conference last year. Manufacturers other than Apple may also support the protocol, allowing users to stream audio to third-party devices. In addition, there is support for multiple speakers for a stereo setup and multiroom support in the new protocol.

The American company has not yet responded to the disappearance of AirPlay 2 from the betas. The protocol for streaming should, among other things, increase the functionality of Apple’s recently released speaker Homepod.
