Apple postpones release of podcast subscriptions until June – update

Apple’s paid podcast subscriptions will be made available a little later. The feature was supposed to be released in May, but the company has informed podcasters via email that it has now become June.

Apple states in the email, which is in the hands of 9to5Mac, that it’s doing so to “ensure we’re delivering the best experience possible to listeners and podcast creators.” That’s not specific, but later in the email, Apple acknowledges that podcast makers have had trouble adding new content to the service. It also says it has “taken feedback from listeners to heart and incorporated it in iOS 14.6.” 9to5Mac states that that section refers to the new design of the Podcasts app.

The function makes it possible to subscribe to a podcast. In doing so, they support the creators financially and they can get early access to new episodes and exclusive content in return. At the same time, Apple is also working on support for lossless audio is Apple Music; that is also planned for June.

Update, 10:30 am: the title of the article said ‘July’, but this must be ‘June’, as stated further down.
