Apple is working on a major redesign of the Apple Watch. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reports this. According to Gurman, the Apple Watch

According to Gurman, the upcoming smartwatch will have a microLED screen. Such screens have a small LED for each individual pixel. This should provide higher contrast and brightness. Rumors have been going around for some time that Apple is working on its own microLED screens. Gurman reported in January that the tech giant wants to release an Apple Watch with a homemade microLED screen from the end of 2024. According to Gurman, the Apple Watch

Apple is also considering changing the way the watch bands attach to the device. The current mounting system, with which watch straps are slid into the watch from the side, may be replaced by a magnetic mounting system. However, it is not known whether this change will actually be implemented. This would mean that old watch straps are not compatible with the Apple Watch X. Insiders report that the old system also has disadvantages. For example, it would take up more space and, according to the sources, that extra space could better be filled with a larger battery or other components.

This year, Apple should release a Watch Series 9 smartwatch. This again receives relatively few changes compared to its predecessor. According to Gurman, the Series 9 will have a faster SoC and new colors. The same applies to the new generation of Apple Watch Ultra. The screen sizes remain the same. Apple is expected to introduce the Series 9 smartwatches in September, along with the iPhone 15 series.
