AMD seems to be succeeding in delivering large quantities of its new RX 480 graphics cards to retail outlets. In the case of a specific store in the US, it would be 100 units, which would be 25 times the amount of GTX 1080 cards the store initially received.

The news is said to be evidenced by reports from Reddit users, verified by Wccftech. The user and the website refer to a Microcenter facility in the US state of Kansas. That would have revealed to the website that they received a total of 100 pieces of the new RX 480, while at the time of the release of Nvidia’s GTX 1080 they would have received only four pieces. If the numbers are correct, then AMD will supply, at least to this branch, 25 times as many copies of its latest video card as Nvidia did. Whether it will ultimately be enough to meet the demand for the cards remains to be seen.

The official release date of AMD’s new RX 480 graphics card is Wednesday, June 29, but not all outlets stick to this kind of data. This is also apparent from a photo posted by a Reddit user. The new video card does not only seem to have a favorable ratio between price, power consumption and performance, but will soon also serve a segment of the market that Nvidia has not served with its latest generation of video cards: low-end and midrange. Conversely, AMD does not serve the high-end segment with the RX 480, RX 470 and RX 460. It is not yet known when the latter two cards will be released on the market. In the longer term, both companies will fill any gaps they are now leaving with new, as yet unannounced models.

AMD unveiled the RX 480 at the Computex trade show in Taiwan and recently revealed additional specifications and benchmarks. At the PC Gaming Show held during E3, AMD CEO Lisa Su unveiled the RX 460 and RX 470. There will also be an RX 480M, designed for laptops.

The 4GB version of the RX 480 has a suggested retail price of $200. The 8GB model seems to cost 230 to 240 dollars. It is not yet known what the final prices will be in euros.
