AMD removes part of first-generation Ryzen CPUs from price list – update

AMD has removed some of its first-generation Ryzen CPUs from its price list. The models will probably no longer be delivered and may be withdrawn from the market soon, if the current stocks at stores run out.

The latest price list AMD recently put online misses all the first-generation Ryzen 7 models, and the Ryzen 5 1600X, 5 1400 and 3 1200 are also gone. The Ryzen 5 1500X, 5 1600 and the Ryzen 3 1300X are still on the list.

AMD released the second generation of its Ryzen CPUs on Thursday; Four models have so far appeared in it: the Ryzen 7 2700X, 2700 and the Ryzen 5 2600X and 2600. The new CPUs are compatible with the AM4 motherboards with X370 chipset that appeared simultaneously with the first generation Ryzen CPUs.

Why AMD still offers some of the first-generation Ryzen CPUs and has already omitted others is not clear. It is also striking that AMD does not yet mention its new economical GE versions of the Ryzen 2000 APUs in the price list.

The CPUs that AMD has removed from its price list are still widely available at online stores, but whoever buys a new system or upgrades a processor now has little to add to go for the newer and faster second-generation CPUs. For example, the former top model, the Ryzen 7 1800X, costs just under 300 euros, while the Ryzen 7 2700X is offered for less than 320 euros.

Update, April 26: AMD says in a response that all Ryzen CPUs of the first generation are still for sale for the time being. The models have since been added to the price list.
