AMD has posted a timer on its website that counts down to a preview regarding a Zen processor. The processor is put to the test by an esports gamer commented by Geoff Keighley, a game journalist.

The timer counts down to December 13 at 10 PM. AMD calls the event “New Horizon”. It is hosted by Geoff Keighley, who frequently hosts shows around video games. During the show, a system with the processor will be used by Peter Dager, better known by the alias ‘ppd’. Ppd has become successful playing the moba game Dota 2.

The choice to show the capabilities of the processor with Dota 2 is striking, as the game has very low system requirements. Which processor or processors AMD wants to show is unknown. There are rumors about various quad and octacore models that have SMT. The first that is rumored to be released is the top model that bears the name SR7. Presumably this is the octacore model and the one shown during the December 13 show.

In all likelihood, the new Zen processors will be officially announced at CES in January 2017 and the first editions will be on sale from February.
