Amazon says it has not identified a data breach in a database of Kindle users. Recently, a hacker claimed that he had obtained the data of 80,000 users and offered it on the Internet.

Amazon states to The Register that the leaked data does not come from one of its own servers. In addition, the data would not be real accounts of Amazon customers. It is unclear what the origin of the data is, the company does not provide any additional information.

The leaked database was examined last week by Hacked-DB, which concluded that the data is genuine and had not previously appeared online, Hackread said. The data would include email addresses, hashed passwords, and debug information. The hacker is said to have first offered this information to Amazon for an amount of $700, but the company did not respond to this offer. Then he decided to make the information public.
