Adobe has made Photoshop for the iPad available in Apple’s App Store. This is a first, limited version and ultimately the software should offer the same functionality as the full-fledged Photoshop software.

The first release of Photoshop for iPad includes basic image editing tools. Users can use psd files including layers and traditional tools such as Quick Selection, the lasso and feathering are present. The app works with the 9.7″, 10.5″, and 12.9″ versions of the iPad Pro, the fifth generation iPad, the iPad mini 4 and the iPad Air 2 and both the first as the second generation of the Apple Pencil.

The software is 216.3MB in size, runs on iOS 13.1 or later and is available in German, English, French and Japanese. The app can be tried out for free for thirty days, after which you have to pay 11 euros per month. Users who already have a Photoshop subscription can use the software immediately.

A year ago, Adobe announced the release of a full version of Photoshop for the iPad. However, the now released software is not complete. Adobe speaks of a starting point and in the future advanced tools such as those for brushes, masks and selecting smart subjects will become available. It is not known when Photoshop should be ‘complete’.

Adobe Photoshop Express will remain available for the iPhone. Adobe is likely to announce the availability of Photoshop for iPadOS later on Monday during Adobe Max, the conference that takes place through Wednesday.
