Foxconn wants to produce and sell accessories for the hardware it makes for companies such as Apple and Nokia. In this way, the original equipment manufacturer wants to be less dependent on Apple, in particular, Foxconn’s largest client.

Hon Hai, the Taiwanese owner of the Foxconn group, wants to further diversify its revenues as the group sees the turnover it has achieved in recent years from production orders from its partners. In the last quarter alone, sales fell by 19 percent. Foxconn is currently heavily dependent on Apple; the company produces the iPhones and iPads for its American client and is estimated to account for half of its annual turnover. Since Apple hasn’t released any brand new products this year and will face more competition, Foxconn now seems to want to bet on other horses as well.

An anonymous driver of Hon Hai late to The Wall Street Journal know that the company wants to release accessories under the Foxconn brand name for the hardware it makes on behalf of Apple and Nokia, among others. For example, the company would like to pay licenses from Apple to be able to release peripherals for the iPhone and iPad. This includes cables, keyboards and headphones.

Foxconn would also try to sell its customers’ equipment in China through online stores. For example, the company would like to act as a reseller for Apple. In addition, Foxconn is said to have plans to open stores in China where consumers can try out the hardware.
