Google to release beta of Android 11 on June 3
Google will release the first beta of Android 11 on June 3. The search giant announced this in a YouTube video. The company will therefore tell more about new features in the next version of its mobile operating system.
The live stream is a replacement for the announcement at the Google I/O developer conference, the video shows. The conference was scheduled for this month, but has been canceled due to the recent outbreak of the coronavirus.
Android 11 came out in February as Developer Preview. As a result, developers can already test whether their apps work well and experiment with things like new APIs. Many of the new features for users are only in beta. The release of Android 11 is planned for the end of the summer.
In Android 11, users can pin conversations without new notifications to the notification bar for quick access. Chat apps can also show conversations in ‘bubbles’. In addition, it will be possible to insert images into the notification bar with replies to chat conversations. In terms of privacy, users can give an app one-time access to, for example, the location. That is not possible under Android 10. In addition, Google will ban apps by default from tracking location in the background.
