2K Games confirmed the arrival of a new studio on Thursday. The new development studio is called Hangar 13 and is led by Haden Blackman, who previously worked at LucasArts, among others. What the new studio is working on is still unknown.

Hangar 13, like 2K’s headquarters, is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the announcement said. According to the parent company, the development studio would be working on “an as yet unpresented next-gen” title, although 2K Games probably means a game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and not for the next generation of consoles. The studio is writing its own engine for the new game. It is still unclear when the first game of Hanger 13 should be released.

The studio is headed by Haden Blackman. He started his career at LucasArts Entertainment, where he worked in various roles on multiple Stars Wars games. After that, Blackman co-founded Fearless Studios. That studio was acquired by Kabam in 2012. He does not reveal much about the future plans of Hangar 13.

In an interview with Polygon, Blackman does indicate that at the moment the focus is on forming the development team. The staff is said to have shipped hundreds of games together. The only thing Blackman reveals in the interview is that the workforce is large enough to get all the intended work done, but at the same time small enough to know everyone by name.
