Google will soon release the YouTube Music app for Wear OS for some older smartwatches. Initially, the app was only available for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 watches with the updated Wear OS.

The YouTube Music app for Wear OS will be available this week for a number of older Wear OS 2 smartwatches from manufacturers such as Fossil, Michael Kors and Mobvoi, writes The Verge. These include, for example, the Gen 6 smartwatches from Fossel and Michael Kors, in addition to the TicWatch Pro 3 series and the TicWatch E3. All those smartwatches have a Snapdragon Wear 4100 or 4100+ soc. Later this year, the app would also be available for other Wear OS 2 smartwatches. Users will be able to download the smartwatch app from the Play Store as soon as it is available for their device.

Google shared the first details about the YouTube Music app for Wear OS when the company, along with Samsung, announced that Wear OS and Tizen would be merging. Those two operating systems together formed Wear OS 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 models were the first smartwatches with this OS. It was previously suggested that the new app would not be available for smartwatches with Wear OS 2, wrote 9to5Google, among others. This turns out not to be the case.

The YouTube Music app lets Wear OS users download music from the service for offline listening. This does require a YouTube Music Premium subscription. The app also supports a ‘smart downloads’ feature, which automatically refreshes downloaded songs when the wearable connects to a Wi-Fi network.
