Wojcicki’s role in founding Google is that in 1998 she rented out her garage to Larry Page and Sergey Brin. She tells in a personal update to employees that she will be embarking on “a new chapter centered around my family, health and personal projects that are close to my heart.” The woman leaves the video site in the hands of Neal Mohan, also a Google veteran.
Mohan held senior positions at online advertising company DoubleClick before it was acquired by Google. In 2007, Mohan joined DoubleClick to Google, where he was senior vice president of Display and Video Ads. In 2015, he moved to YouTube, where according to Wojcicki, he was instrumental in introducing YouTube TV, YouTube Music, YouTube Premium and Shorts.
YouTube brought in a total of $ 29 billion in 2021 revenue inside. Official figures on how many users the platform has are not just disclosed, but the company did report in 2022 that TikTok competitor Shorts alone has 1.5 billion monthly active users.
