Developer Rovo89 has released a first beta of its Xposed framework for Android 8.0. Until now, Xposed was fully compatible with Android 7.1. The developer said last month that Xposed for Android Oreo was almost ready.

Rovo89 tells XDA-Developers that it is in beta, because bugs can still occur and modules can crash or cause bootloops. To install Xposed, users need to flash the framework zip file through the recovery. Root is required to install Xposed.

In recent years, the developer has released a new version of its Xposed framework for new Android versions. The framework supported Android 5.0 to 7.1 until beta. The port to Oreo has been delayed due to a release that squashes many bugs. That version, v89, came out last month.

Xposed is a module plugin framework that enables advanced tweaks on Android phones. For example, there are modules to set the language per application, to choose themes in WhatsApp and to hide the fact that a user has root access, so that apps that refuse to function with root can still be run. There is a repository with a total of 1164 mods available. Xposed can also be installed on top of Magisk, a popular root method on Android.
