Windows Phone users can download Here Transit navigation app again

After being absent for some time, it is again possible to download the Here Transit navigation software from the Windows Store, although this only applies to Windows Phone 8.1 for the time being. The Here apps have been absent for quite some time due to technical issues.

WM Poweruser discovered that Here Transit is again available in the Windows Store, but that the other applications in the series, Drive+ and Maps, have not yet returned. Here Transit, an application with which walkers and users of public transport can get navigation directions, is currently only available for download for smartphones with Windows Phone 8.1, and not for devices on Windows 10 Mobile.

Because the makers of the Here software have not released anything about the sudden return to the Windows Store, it is unclear why only Here Transit is still available. However, it is likely that the other Here apps will also return soon. According to Here, the disappearance of the apps was related to technical problems, but the exact cause was never explained in detail.

Here was originally owned by Nokia, but it sold the cards division earlier this year to a car consortium that included BMW, Daimler and Audi. Nevertheless, the intention is to make the Here apps suitable for Windows 10 Mobile. It is not yet known when this will happen.
