Starting January 14, 2020, Microsoft will charge $50 per system for Windows 7 Pro Extended Support with security updates. In the second and third years, those costs increase to $100 and $200, respectively. That’s what ZDNet claims.

Microsoft has announced to customers and sales departments the prices it will charge for extended support for the business variants of Windows 7. From January 2020 to January 2021, companies must pay $25 per device running Windows 7 Enterprise, according to ZDNet. In the following two years, that increases to 50 and 100 dollars.

For Windows 7 Pro, the amounts are even higher with 50, 100 and 200 dollars. Microsoft provides three years of paid Windows 7 Extended Security Updates for its old OS. If companies request extended support in the second or third year, they must also pay for the previous years. Whether Microsoft will offer discounts to large companies with many systems, the company did not confirm to ZDNet.

Windows 7 has been out of mainstream support since 2015. Thanks to the extended support, users can still receive security updates until January 14, 2020, after which the widely used software is end-of-life.
