Windows 11 update lets users switch default browsers with a click

Microsoft is going to make it easier for Windows 11 users to switch default browsers. In a new update, it will be possible to switch the default browser in the operating system with a single click.

Under update KB5011563 it should be possible to switch the default browser with a single click, just like in Windows 10. Previously, Windows 11 users had to change the default application for several file types. However, the developers of Mozilla Firefox had already managed to get around this.

The change appeared in a test build for Windows 11 last December. Now the change will be available to all users once they install the update. Under default apps, you will soon be able to make a browser other than Edge your default browser with one click. You no longer have to set the default app separately for HTM, HTML, HTTP and Https.

Microsoft received a lot of criticism from users and developers of other browsers after introducing the thresholds for setting a different default browser. The tech giant initially defended the new actions, arguing that it would allow users to further personalize their settings.
