In total, Microsoft’s mobile apps around Windows 10 have been downloaded about 32 million times, according to a leaked document from Microsoft. The Microsoft Launcher has four million active users. Microsoft is also working on a mobile Family app.

The mobile version of Microsoft’s Edge browser for iOS and Android has been downloaded 4.5 million times and the Microsoft Launcher for Android has 4 million monthly active users. The total for Microsoft’s mobile apps comes to 32 million downloads, according to figures from Microsoft itself, which Thurrot publishes. The site received a document containing the statistics.

It concerns mobile apps based on Windows 10 that have been developed by Microsoft’s Essential Products, or EPIC, division. In addition to Edge and the Launcher, OneNote, Microsoft To-Do, and Microsoft News also fall under these mobile apps. The company is also developing a Family mobile app, the function of which is not yet clear. It’s unclear whether Microsoft considers the numbers a success. In any case, the figures are nothing compared to those of SwiftKey, acquired by Microsoft in 2016: it has more than 159 million active users.

Microsoft is trying to gain a foothold on the competing platforms iOS and Android with self-developed apps after its own Windows Phone OS flopped. The internal document states that the EPIC division has three goals, one of which is to make Windows work better with mobile devices. The other two goals are to promote Windows for education and create a clearer strategy for Windows.

Windows 10 is now running on 825 million devices, the document shows. At last week’s Build 2019 development conference, Microsoft talked about “more than 800 million” devices. At the event, Microsoft did not focus on Windows or mobile apps, but more on the business Microsoft 365. Under this umbrella, Microsoft gathers Windows, Office and a range of other products and services, which have to work together to a greater or lesser extent.
