WhatsApp Web beta gets screen lock with password
The latest beta version of WhatsApp Web has an option for some users to lock the chat window with a password. The feature is now available to some beta testers and will be available to more beta users in the coming weeks.
The screen lock was added in WhatsApp Web beta 2.2333.11, notes WABetaInfo. The feature does not appear to be available to all beta testers. Users with access to the test can enable the feature in WhatsApp settings under ‘Privacy’.
If users do that, they can lock the WhatsApp window in their web browser. For example, chat conversations can only be viewed with a password. WhatsApp notifications are also not shown while the window is locked. Users who forget their password must log out and relink the web browser via their phone using a QR code.
According to WABetaInfo, the test will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks. However, it is not yet known when the feature will become generally available to all WhatsApp users. WABetaInfo reported at the end of last year that WhatsApp Web may get a screen lock option, although it was not yet known when that feature would appear.
