WhatsApp is working on support for use on two smartphones
WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to connect a second mobile device to the service. After scanning a QR code, users can use WhatsApp on another smartphone or tablet.
The beta version 2.22.10.11 of WhatsApp for Android includes a function to connect a new mobile device, discovered WABetaInfo. The site notes that the feature allows users to register a device as a companion. To do this, they can select the section for connected devices in the settings and generate a QR code. By scanning it with another smartphone or tablet, they can also use WhatsApp on that device.
WhatsApp already made it possible last year to use the chat service on multiple devices without the need for a smartphone connection. This involved up to four other devices in addition to pairing with a single smartphone, but the remaining devices were not allowed to be mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets. It is not clear when WhatsApp will make the extension to mobile devices, as it is now in beta, widely available. WABetaInfo already wrote about the arrival of a multidevice 2.0 function for WhatsApp last year.
