WhatsApp has rolled out a feature through Google Play’s testing program. This lets the user export chat backups stored in Google Drive. It is not known when the feature will become available to all WhatsApp users on Android.

WABetaInfo has encountered the feature in test version 2.22.13.11 on Android. The screenshot shows that the option can be found in the backup settings of the app. The backup contains the entire chat history, such as messages, images, videos and other media files. WhatsApp is also working on a function that can import the backups back to Google Drive, writes WABetaInfo.

Earlier, the site found indications that WhatsApp may no longer be able to use unlimited storage space for backups to Google Drive in the future. It concluded that “a certain quota of storage will still be free, but limited.” It is not known when these limits could come into effect.
