WD Blue SN570-NVMe SSD reads almost half faster than SN550

WD introduces a new NVMe model in its midrange Blue series. Like its predecessor, the Blue SN570 uses PCI-Express 3.0 and can achieve read speeds of up to 3.5GB/s, almost half the speed of the SN550’s 2.4GB/s.

The Blue SN570 is the third generation of NVMe SSDs in WD’s Blue line. Unlike the Black series, these SSDs do not have dram cache, which means that the performance is at a lower level. Presumably, like other WD SSDs, the SN570 uses a controller that you designed yourself. The flash memory comes of course from our own factory and is addressed with three bits per cell, in other words as TLC.

The SN550 was still in the news at the end of August, when WD had almost tacitly changed the type of flash memory used in the SSD. That had a negative effect on the performance level outside the slc cache. In response to the outcry, WD promised to match future changes to the published specifications with the introduction of a new model number.

Depending on the capacity, the prices of the WD Blue SN570 are equal to or slightly lower than those of the SN550. The warranty conditions and the specified service life have not changed either. The Blue SN570 SSDs come with a proprietary edition of Acronis True Image software and a code for a monthly subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud, which includes Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
