Presumed specifications of an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX CPU for laptops have appeared. The CPU would have eight Zen 3+ cores and an integrated RDNA2 GPU, called Radeon 680M. An announcement is expected during CES.

Sources report to Wccftech that the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX has eight cores and sixteen threads. According to the website, the maximum turbo frequency is 4.6GHz, just like the current Ryzen 9 5900HX. The upcoming CPU should be based on Zen 3+, be an improved version of the current Zen 3 microarchitecture. The processor is produced by TSMC at 6nm, according to the website, while current Ryzen CPUs are made at 7nm.

The tech website also reports that the alleged laptop processor will be used in laptops with separate laptop GPUs from Nvidia, such as the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. According to Wccftech, the CPU will also receive an integrated RDNA2 GPU, as has been expected for some time. The GPU would be called ‘Radeon 680M’, the website reports. It is not known how many compute units this GPU will get. Earlier rumors state that the upcoming laptop processors will receive a maximum of twelve RDNA2 CUs.

The processor will also receive support for DDR5-4800 memory, reports Wccftech. DDR4 support is not discussed. In addition, according to Wccftech, the CPU will receive 4MB L2 cache and 16MB L3 cache. The website also writes that the upcoming laptop CPU will not use AMD’s stacked 3D V-Cache. That technique would only be introduced in AMD’s processors for laptops in a few generations.

AMD is expected to announce its new laptop processors during CES. The company will hold a presentation on January 4. The Threadripper PRO 5000 CPUs are also expected, based on Zen 3. AMD will probably also show the Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400. Those GPUs would be produced at 6nm.
