Waze allows users to avoid ‘difficult intersections’

Waze will be able to take into account so-called ‘difficult crossings’ when navigating. Users can choose to avoid these so that driving is less stressful, or so the thinking goes.

For now, it is a test of the new feature, Waze announces on its blog. Los Angeles navigation software users will be given the option to enable or disable the ‘avoid difficult intersections’. Incidentally, not all intersections that are difficult to register are avoided, but the software tries to find a balance between the required driving time and the most comfortable route.

Difficult intersections can be, for example, traffic situations where a busy road has to be crossed, where there are no traffic lights. According to Waze, a subsidiary of Google, those kinds of situations can be stressful, and avoiding them could also make for a safer ride.

After Los Angeles, New Orleans will have the opportunity to avoid difficult intersections, although it is not clear when this will be. Other cities will also receive the new feature, but Waze states that it will be examined in consultation with the community which ones have priority. It is not clear when difficult crossings can also be avoided abroad.
