In an update of Valve’s virtual reality game The Lab, almost the complete source code of a Half-Life minigame has been found. The game is codenamed Shooter and features several Half-Life assets. Maybe it’s leftovers from a demo.

YouTube channel Valve News Network found a substantial amount of code in the game files for a minigame that uses various Half-Life assets. For example, VNN found the game model of Half-Life character Wallace Breen. The code also contains references to various Combine enemies and the iconic G-Man. There is also code for a shooting range and various weapons in the game files.

According to VNN, the minigame consists of a complete game campaign with several chapters. The whole thing takes place in a VR room in which the player is transported to virtual locations in the Half-Life universe. A simulation of City 17 is also mentioned, a well-known place from the game series.

Valve News Network speculates that Shooter is an old unused demo for a vr shooting game that doesn’t require the player to move. It is unclear if the game is still being worked on, but according to the discoverer it is probably remnants of a proof-of-concept. VNN is calling on programmers to help research the source code.
