Vivaldi 5.0 update adds dual tab bar capability to Android version

The Android version of browser Vivaldi will have a function to divide tabs over two bars, just as is already possible with the desktop version. Furthermore, it is now possible to reduce the tabs by removing the cross or only showing the icon.

The new feature is called Tab Stacks. Users can activate the feature by holding down the plus sign on the right side of the tab bar and pressing ‘Create new tab stack’. It is also possible to merge existing tabs and make them into a ‘stack’. The tab bars can also be moved to the bottom of the screen. In January, this feature was already added to the desktop version of Vivaldi.

A number of other features have also been added, such as the ability to turn dark mode on or off for specific pages. It is now also possible to remove the cross from tabs, or to make the tabs so small that only the icon of the site is visible. In addition, users can now select text on a web page and immediately add it to a note.

On tablets and Chromebooks, Vivaldi also adds a Side Panels feature. Those panels appear on the left side of the screen, and can show browser history, bookmarks, downloads, and notes. This makes it possible, for example, to have the browser history open and surf the web at the same time.

The desktop version has also received a 5.0 update with two additions. For example, the home page of Vivaldi can now be customized with themes. For that, they can use ready-made themes from Vivaldi themselves and change their colors. It is also possible to import your own themes for use on the home page. Finally, the browser gets a Translate Panel. It allows users to select pieces of text from a web page to translate. Previously it was only possible to immediately translate the entire webpage.
