Valve has made it possible to set up an alternate ‘intro video’ for the Steam Deck. This was already possible with a plugin that the community developed, but it is now official. Intro videos are payable with Steam Points.

At the time of writing, there are 21 different startup animations to be found in the Point Shop. These cost 3000 points each. Users earn points by spending money on Steam; for every euro they spend, they receive 108 points. So for every 27.78 euros they spend on Steam, they get a launch animation for the Steam Deck. In addition, eight different virtual keyboard themes were already available for purchase for 5,000 points each.

Not surprisingly for the platform, customizing the intro animation was already possible via the Animation Changer plugin for Deck Loader. Perhaps Valve thought this was a nice enough feature to make it official. Valve’s handheld PC has been on the market for a little over a year now.
