The American technician who assembled a 3G dial telephone earlier this year has now announced that he is working on a 4G variant. That will no longer be a DIY project. The phone is for sale.

In addition to access to 4G to make it work longer, the new variant also has a larger e-paper screen, SD card slot for, for example, transferring contacts and parts that are easy to repair, Justine Haupt said on her website. There are no images of the new version yet.

The case is no longer a 3D print, but Haupt wants to use injection molding to make them. In addition, the dials are also new and no longer parts of a certain old phone that proved difficult for many people to find. The 4g version is also immediately ready for use and is not a DIY kit.

Haupt previously made a kit for the 3g version of the rotary dial telephone. Users still have to order many parts themselves, including the turntable itself, an Adafruit Fona 3g for connection to mobile networks, the battery and the screen made of electronic ink. This is not necessary with the 4g version.

The technician published the documentation for the dial phone earlier this year. By day, Haupt is a technician making equipment for astronomy at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York and is working on his own robot development company. The phone is a side project.
