Update for GTA Remasters promises performance improvements across all platforms

Rockstar has released a major update for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. According to the patch notes, the update will bring improved performance across all platforms and across all graphics modes. Many bugs have also been fixed.

Rockstar does not report what performance improvements players can expect. At the top of the Title Update 1.04 patch notes, it says it’s “improved performance across all platforms.” The update is available for the games on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In addition to performance improvements, Rockstar says the update brings stability improvements and fixes issues with retrying a mission from the last checkpoint. Also, unnamed issues with collisions, texture art, and signage have been resolved.

For each game, Rockstar mentions an extensive list of solved problems. This concerns matters that occurred in a specific game of the remaster bundle or with a version for a certain platform.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was released on November 11 last year for consoles and PC. The release was met with much criticism, due to poor performance and large amounts of bugs. The development of the GTA remasters has been outsourced to Grove Street Games; that studio previously made mobile versions of the trilogy.

Rockstar soon after release apologized for the quality of the games and promised to come up with updates. Several updates have been released in recent months, but players continued to experience performance issues on various platforms after patch 1.03.

Despite the criticism that the remasters received, they sold better than expected, according to publisher Take-Two. From the total sales of the GTA franchise, it can be concluded that it concerns a maximum of 10 million copies.
