‘Update for app resets default mail client or browser under iOS 14’

An update to an app that a user has set as the default mail or browsing app will bring iOS 14 back to Apple Mail or Safari as the default app. It is the second bug in iOS 14 that resets default apps.

The bug occurs every time users install an update from the App Store, says developer David Clarke and The Verge confirms that. This happens with manual updates, but also if users have chosen to install app updates automatically. The apps will continue to work, but are no longer the default.

It is the second bug in iOS 14 feature to set default browsing and mail apps. Earlier it turned out that the institution did not survive a reboot. Apple addressed that in iOS 14.0.1. Apple has not yet responded to this new bug.

Various apps can now be set as standard under iOS 14, including Edge and Outlook from Microsoft, Chrome and Gmail from Google, the Firefox browser from Mozilla and the browser from DuckDuckGo.
