Ubisoft will make fewer Wii U games

Wii U games sold last year made up just three percent of Ubisoft’s total. That is why the French publisher will make fewer games for Nintendo’s console. Watch Dogs is still out for Wii U.

“It’s very simple; what we see is that Nintendo fans are not buying Assassin’s Creed. We have sold very few copies in the last year,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in an interview with Game Informer. The number of games sold is declining, according to Guillemot. In the last fiscal year, sales of Wii U games at Ubisoft made up three percent of the total. A year earlier, it was still four percent. By comparison, games for the Wii, the predecessor to the Wii U, sell significantly better. The number of Wii games makes up 11 percent of the total, compared to 16 percent a year earlier.

Still, Guillemot wants to continue to market games for the Nintendo consoles. “We see that only a certain type of games do well. Just Dance, for example. So we will mainly release games that sell well.” The director does not comment on the games or series that he no longer wants to release for Nintendo consoles, although Assassin’s Creed seems a suitable candidate. Guillemot stressed that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs is still on the market. It should be on sale by the end of this year.
