Ubiquiti introduces its UniFi Express. This router supports gigabit speeds and offers a built-in Wi-Fi 6 access point and UniFi Network controller. The device will be available immediately and costs 147.62 euros.

The Ubiquiti UniFi Express is very similar to the UXG Lite gateway that Ubiquiti recently released. Unlike the UXG Lite, however, the UniFi Express functions as a full UniFi cloud gateway. For example, the device has a built-in Wi-Fi 6 access point, with 2×2 mu-mimo and a theoretical range of up to 140m².

The router also has a UniFi Network controller integrated. Users do not have to purchase a Cloud Key or host the free UniFi Network application to manage the network, as is the case with the UXG Lite. The integrated controller supports up to five additional UniFi devices, such as switches, access points or other UniFi Express units. Users who want to use more UniFi equipment or use Ubiquiti security cameras via UniFi Protect must still purchase a separate Cloud Key.

The UniFi Express can therefore be used to control an entire network, but can also be used as a separate access point. Users can also connect multiple UniFi Express gateways together for additional Wi-Fi range. This can be done via both a wired and a wireless uplink. The router offers according to Ubiquiti routing performance of 1Gbit/s. Users should be able to enable security features such as Traffic and Device Identification without affecting performance.

The UniFi Express is relatively small, with a length and width of 98mm and a height of 30mm. The device has a small 0.96″ screen with rounded corners on the front. It shows information such as throughput speeds, the number of clients and the WiFi range. On the back of the device there is a 1Gbit/s WAN port. The device also has a 1Gbit/s LAN connection, to which a switch can be connected, for example, for more network ports. The router is supplied with power via USB-C.

The UniFi Express router is available via the Ubiquiti website. The device costs 147.62 euros including VAT. That is approximately the same price as the UXG Lite, which does not have an integrated Wi-Fi 6 access point or Network controller.
