Toshiba introduces laptops with fingerprint sensor in trackpad

Toshiba has announced the Portégé X30 and Tecra X40 business laptops. The ultrabooks have a magnesium housing with an internal honeycomb structure for sturdiness. The trackpad has a fingerprint sensor.

The trackpad is Synaptics’ SecurePad, which allows users to scan their fingerprint by holding it on a sensor at the top left of the trackpad. An LED indicates whether the scan was successful. Toshiba applies this to the Portégé X30 and Tecra X40.

The Portégé X30 has a 13.3″ screen, weighs 1.05kg and is 15.9mm thin. With a 14″ screen, 16.9mm thick and 1.25kg weight, the Tecra X40 is a bit bigger, thicker and heavier. Both laptops have an anti-glare screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.

The laptops get Kaby Lake Core i7s of the U-series, DDR4 memory and PCI-e SSDs. They have two USB-C ports, including one with Thunderbolt 3 support. A smart card reader and IR camera with Windows Hello support are optional. Toshiba makes the Portégé X30 and Tecra X40 will be available from June 2017.
