Tokyo police demonstrate interception drone
Tokyo police have assembled a new anti-drone team. The officers showed their security drones on Thursday. The team must enforce a Japanese law in Tokyo that bans drones in crowded residential areas.
The police team will mainly focus on protecting important buildings, such as those of the Ministry and those in other no-fly zones. According to The Asahi Shimbun, Japan has previously called for the regulation of drones. This appeal came mainly after a protester managed to place radioactive sand on the roof of the Japanese Prime Minister’s office, as reported by the BBC. Violation of the new rules can result in a fine of approximately 3750 euros for the driver.
To stop the drones, the police will first search for the driver while warnings are issued. If the driver does not respond or cannot be found, the police team will deploy an interception drone. He takes the illegal drone out of the air with a net and brings it to the ground. The police team is the first of its kind in Japan.
