TLS certificate error caused SharePoint Online and OneDrive failure
Microsoft reports that the outage of SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business has been resolved. The problem was caused by an error with the services TLS certificate. This issue was introduced after an update from Microsoft.
Many users reported Monday evening that they saw an error message when visiting SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business, details BleepingComputer. After an update, the TLS security certificate for .sharepoint.de appears to have been added to the international domain. This created a discrepancy between the Microsoft platform certificate and users trying to connect from outside Germany.
Microsoft says that those affected can obtain more information about the resolved issue via the Microsoft 365 admin center. The outage appears to have lasted roughly an hour.
SharePoint Online and the underlying OneDrive for Business are part of the Microsoft 365 business subscription. The former service makes it possible to exchange and store information within a company or organization. OneDrive is a cloud storage platform.
