The Mandalorian Actor Pedro Pascal to Play Joel in HBO Series The Last of Us

The HBO series The Last of Us, based on the PlayStation game, has attracted actor Pedro Pascal to take on the role of Joel. He is best known for the Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Ellie is played by actress Bella Ramsey, known from Game of Thrones.

Neil Druckmann, one of the directors of developer Naughty Dog and writer for the game The Last of Us, confirmed on Twitter that Pascal has a role in the upcoming TV series. This is the studio behind The Last of Us games. Deadline came shortly before with the message that he will play the lead role. Pedro Pascal is known from the TV series Narcos and The Mandalorian, even though in the latter series he often hides behind his helmet.

Pascal is not specifically named for the role of Joel, but Druckmann confirmed his arrival with the caption “there’s the other half.” He probably refers to the earlier message from The Hollywood Reporter that actress Bella Ramsey, known for the role of Lyanna Mormont from Game of Thrones, has been attracted to play the role of Ellie. Druckmann confirmed that Ramsey will be part of The Last of Us.

The original The Last of Us game centers on the bond between Joel and Ellie. The game is known for its emotional story. This story will probably also be central in the TV series from HBO, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions, but few details are known about it yet. Earlier it was clear that Craig Mazin is responsible for adapting the games to the TV series; he was previously responsible for the HBO series Chernobyl.

PlayStation Productions is a Sony production company that was set up in 2018 to film PlayStation titles. The company is also working on the Uncharted film in addition to The Last of Us series. Plans to film that game date back to 2008. The film should have been released sometime this year, but the film is currently scheduled to be released in February 2022.
