The Audi Q8 is the new top model in Audi's SUV lineup

The new Audi Q8 is available in Europe from autumn and so it’s time to see if it’s worth the wait. The Q8 is a kind of hybrid model that offers the space of an SUV combined with the sporty bodywork line of a four-door coupé. The European model will be an economical 50 TDI with 210 kW / 286 hp.

Audi’s SUV coupe is being launched as Q8 50 TDI. The powerful 3.0 TDI engine produces 210 kW / 286 hp and 600 Nm of torque, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 245 km / h. With the eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, that is so wonderful and uncomplicated driving. Next year you get more choice: Audi is expanding the Q8 45 TDI (170 kW / 231 hp) range with the Q8 55 TFSI (250 kW / 340 hp).

Smart and beautiful

There is also a 48 Volt system in the Q8 with a lithium-ion battery and a starter/generator. When braking, the system can recover up to 12 kW of energy and Mild Hybrid technology allows the Q8 to ‘sail’ with a disconnected powertrain over a relatively long distance. It also means that the start/stop system starts working at 22 km / h. The result is a fuel saving of up to 0.7 liters per 100 kilometers.
Thanks to a ground clearance of 25.4 centimeters, short overhangs at the front and rear, Quattro permanent all-wheel drive and Hill Descent Control, the Q8 feels at home everywhere, even when the paved asphalt stops. With the imposing octagonal Singleframe grille, the Audi Q8 is immediately the new face of the Q-family. The appearance of the large car is characterized by its elegantly sloping roofline, large wheel arches that design the subcutaneous quattro drive, standard LED headlights (HD matrix LED lighting is optional) and large alloy wheels.

Also beautiful inside

The two touchscreens of the MMI system disappear almost completely into the black surface of the dashboard when they are switched off. The infotainment and navigation system and the heating, air conditioning and other comfort functions are operated with these two screens, but you can also use voice commands. Also very cool: a heads-up display projects the most important information in the windshield.

The Audi Q8 is (depending on the version) equipped with up to five radar sensors, six cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors and a laser scanner. He has, among other things, Adaptive Cruise Assist, Efficiency Assist, Crossing Assist, Lane Change Warning, Curb Warning and a 360-degree camera. Remote Garage Pilot will follow in 2019, with which the SUV, under the supervision of the driver, can autonomously drive in and out of a garage.
