Telltale Games, known for its episodic games, is laying off a quarter of its staff. There are approximately 90 employees. According to the studio and publisher, this is necessary to remain competitive.

The layoff will not affect ongoing projects, Telltale Games told gamesindustry.biz. Pete Hawley, CEO of the company, says his goal is to focus on fewer, but better games, with a smaller team. That would be necessary because, according to him, the game industry has changed enormously in recent years.

Telltale Games is a well-known name for its episodes that are based on comics, TV series or other games. The studio broke through in 2012 with The Walking Dead: Season One and many games followed after that according to a similar recipe.

This year, Telltale Games released episodic games from Guardians of the Galaxy, Minecraft, and Batman. The final season of The Walking Dead and a sequel to The Wolf Among Us are scheduled for next year.
