Danish SteelSeries has acquired audio software developer A-Volute. This company is known, among other things, for the 3D audio software called Nahimic. This should lead to improvements in sound for SteelSeries gaming products.

According to SteelSeries, the acquisition has benefits for further developing and expanding the SteelSeries Engine. The Danish company says that Nahimic is an important software for 3D solutions in games and that the software is integrated in many popular gaming laptops. The company refers to products from MSI and Dell, but also, for example, to games such as Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Destiny 2 and League of Legends.

The software precisely places sounds in games around the player and can create a multi-channel sound experience even though the player uses a stereo product. A-Volute also says that Nahimic has algorithms that improve voice communication via microphones, with the company citing Discord, Teamspeak and Stream among others.

Not only A-Volute’s products will end up in the hands of SteelSeries, but also the engineers and developers of the audio company. It involves more than twenty employees who are currently working in France, Singapore and Taiwan.

SteelSeries and A-Volute have jointly agreed not to disclose details of the amount involved in the acquisition. The deal, which will put A-Volute wholly in SteelSeries’ hands, is expected to close later in the spring, the parties say.
